Job summary

Community College of Denver is seeking a COSI Achieve Peer Mentor Work-Study to support first-time and continuing scholars with onboarding, outreach, and access to campus resources. You will act as a student leader, foster belonging, and assist the Success Coach in program activities throughout the academic year.

The role emphasizes customer service, confidentiality under FERPA, and collaboration with Advising and campus partners.

Qualifications

  • Must have a Federal Work-Study award.
  • Must be currently enrolled at the Community College of Denver with 6 credit hours.
  • Must be SAP Eligible.

Job Summary

The COSI Achieve Program supports students by providing advising, success coaching, scholarship support, and connections to campus resources that promote academic achievement, persistence, and graduation. The COSI Achieve Peer Mentor is a Federal Work-Study student employee who supports the COSI Achieve Program by helping first-time and continuing COSI Achieve Scholars successfully transition to and navigate the Community College of Denver. Peer Mentors serve as student leaders who provide peer support, connect scholars to campus resources, encourage participation in program activities, and foster a welcoming, inclusive community. Working closely with the COSI Achieve Success Coach, Peer Mentors help strengthen student engagement, promote a sense of belonging, and contribute to the overall success of the COSI Achieve Program.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Welcome and support new and continuing COSI Achieve Scholars by serving as a peer resource throughout the academic year.
  • Build positive relationships with assigned scholars through regular outreach, check-ins, and encouragement.
  • Help students become familiar with the Community College of Denver, including campus services, student resources, and opportunities for involvement.
  • Connect students with appropriate campus resources such as Academic Advising, Financial Aid, Tutoring, Counseling, Accessibility Services, Career Services, Student Life, Basic Needs, and other support programs.
  • Assist with planning, promoting, and facilitating COSI Achieve orientations, workshops, leadership programs, and community-building events.
  • Share personal experiences and strategies that encourage academic success, persistence, and student engagement.
  • Provide excellent customer service while interacting with students, faculty, staff, and campus partners.
  • Assist with student communications through phone calls, email, Microsoft Teams, and text messaging, as appropriate.
  • Support program operations by preparing materials, tracking attendance, organizing supplies, completing data entry, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Participate in required staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information in accordance with FERPA and College policies.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned to support the goals of the COSI Achieve Program.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must have a Federal Work-Study award
  • Must be currently enrolled at the Community College of Denver 6 credit hours

Preferred Qualifications
  • Current or former COSI Achieve Scholar preferred
  • Experience in leadership, mentoring, tutoring, customer service, or student organizations
  • Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply
