Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Corrections seeks a security supervisor to plan, coordinate, and direct the actions of the security staff and oversee custody and control of inmates in assigned units.

You will ensure the security of all buildings and public property, perform routine unit checks, assist with inmate counts, and investigate complaints and disputes among inmates and staff. Training compliance includes completing eight weeks of SCDC Basic Training after hire.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and relevant experience.
• Bachelor’s degree may substitute for the required experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and complete the basic supervisory course within six months of entry into the position.

Responsibilities

• Plans, coordinates and directs security staff and oversees custody and control of inmates in assigned units.
• Assumes responsibility for security of all buildings and public property.
• Conducts routine unit checks to ensure duties are performed properly and OSHA standards are met.
• Assists with inmate counts for accuracy.
• Investigates inmate complaints and disputes between inmates and staff.
