Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent certification is required.
• College coursework and advanced training in behavioral sciences, correctional services or related field preferred.
• Three (3) years of experience working in a correctional setting; one (1) year of supervisory experience preferred.
• Must be mature, flexible, intellectually alert, and able to command the respect and confidence of detainees, inmates and staff.

Responsibilities

• Supervises security/control activities and staff in an assigned area, ensuring maximum facility coordination in detainee supervision and safety.
• Assists in development and implementation of policies, procedures and regulations for custody, security and/or treatment of detainees.
• Responds to major unusual occurrences and provides prompt assistance to detainees in injury, illness or emotional trauma.
• Directs the work of other employees, including hiring, evaluating performance, training and disciplinary actions.
• Reviews staff effectiveness and conducts inspections to ensure policy compliance.
• Prepares records and reports and maintains daily logs; ensures training on procedures and emergency plans.
