Job summary

Commonwealth of VA Careers is seeking a Corrections Lieutenant at Buckingham Correctional Center to oversee security operations on a shift. This role supervises Security Supervisors, Corrections Officers and inmates, ensuring a safe, secure and orderly environment.

The lieutenant leads staff, coordinates schedules and supports performance management, contributing to ongoing inspections and proper post orders adherence, all while interfacing with management and the public.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; valid driver’s license.
• Current Virginia DCJS certification and considerable corrections or law enforcement experience.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily activities of Security Supervisors, Corrections Officers, and Inmates to ensure a safe, secure environment.
• Supervise and monitor staff on the assigned shift; lead and counsel staff.
• Coordinate work schedules and assign duty rosters for the shift.
• Contribute to the administration of staff performance management and conduct ongoing inspections.
• Interact with management, staff, visitors, inmates and the public to maintain orderly operations.
