Job summary

Commonwealth of VA Careers is seeking a Corrections Lieutenant for the Virginia Correctional Center for Women #00128. The role, titled Security Manager I, commands daily operations of Security Supervisors, Officers, and inmates to ensure safety and order within the facility.

Requirements include a high school diploma, valid driver's license, Virginia DCJS certification, and substantial corrections or law enforcement experience.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Virginia DCJS Certification.
• Considerable experience in corrections or law enforcement.
• Experience supervising corrections staff.
• Experience planning, scheduling, and/or organizing work to include timekeeping and duty roster management.
• Experience in reviewing and evaluating records and reports and applying post orders.
• Demonstrated knowledge of security and/or administration practices.
• Ability to receive, understand, follow, and give oral and written instructions.
• Working knowledge of firearms, radio equipment, physical control devices, electric and electronic controls.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily activities of Security Supervisors, Corrections Officers, and Inmates in an institutional setting.
• Supervise and monitor staff on assigned shift to ensure a safe, secure, and productive environment.
• Lead and counsel staff; coordinate work schedules and duty rosters for assigned shift.
• Contribute to administration of performance management system for staff.
• Conduct ongoing inspections to maintain security, sanitation, and good order of the institution.
• Interact with management, staff, visitors, inmates, and the public to maintain orderly and secure operations.
