Job summary

Commonwealth of VA Careers is seeking a Corrections Lieutenant at Caroline Correctional Unit 02. The role supervises Security Supervisors, Corrections Officers, and inmates to maintain a safe, secure facility and coordinates shift rosters and performance management.

The position expects a high school diploma, DCJS certification, and substantial corrections experience, with strong knowledge of security practices and post orders. Includes Department admin contact and Virginia-specific requirements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• DCJS Certification.
• Considerable experience in corrections or law enforcement.
• Experience supervising corrections staff.
• Planning, scheduling, and/or organizing work including timekeeping and duty rosters.
• Experience reviewing records and applying post orders.
• Knowledge of security practices and procedures.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Working knowledge of firearms, radio equipment, and physical control devices.

Responsibilities

• Manages daily activities of Security Supervisors, Corrections Officers, and Inmates.
• Leads and counsels staff; coordinates shift schedules and rosters.
• Administers performance management for staff.
• Conducts inspections to maintain security, sanitation, and order.
• Interacts with management, staff, visitors, inmates, and the public to maintain secure operations.
