Job summary

Dept of Corrections - Central Admin in Virginia seeks a Corrections Lieutenant at Wallens Ridge State Prison to manage daily activities of Security Supervisors, Corrections Officers and Inmates, ensuring a safe, secure environment and orderly operations.

Requires high school diploma, DCJS certification, valid driver's license, and substantial corrections or law enforcement experience including supervision, scheduling, and use of firearms and radio equipment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• DCJS Certification.
• Considerable experience in corrections or law enforcement.
• Experience supervising corrections staff.
• Experience planning, scheduling, and/or organizing work to include timekeeping and duty roster management.
• Experience in reviewing and evaluating records and reports and applying post orders.
• Demonstrated knowledge of practices and procedures governing security and/or administration.
• Ability to receive, understand, follow, and give oral and written instructions.
• Working knowledge in the use of firearms, radio equipment, physical control devices, electric and electronic controls.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily activities of Security Supervisors, Corrections Officers and Inmates to ensure safety and security.
• Lead and counsel staff; coordinate shift schedules and duty rosters.
• Contribute to administration of performance management and conduct inspections for security and order.
• Interact with management, staff, visitors, inmates and the public to maintain orderly operations.
