Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required; copy provided during hiring process.
• Must be 19 years of age or older.
• BAT for Law Enforcement Officers OR possess an Associate's degree or higher from an accredited college or university; copy of diploma/transcript required.

Responsibilities

• Stands watch in halls or towers to control inmate movement.
• Supervises inmate groups on work details; instructs inmates in semi-skilled and unskilled tasks.
• Inspects quarters for safety and contraband; searches inmates and visitors.
• Maintains alert and reports unusual conditions/disturbances; checks doors and safety equipment.
• Makes regular and unscheduled inmate counts and records progress and behavior.
• Completes reports and keeps records of incidents and assignments.
• Drives transfer vehicle and maintains safety equipment.
• Explains rules and available services; assists inmates with personal problems and opportunities.
• Observes inmate behavior and prepares evaluation reports.
• Instructs inmates in hygiene, discipline, and etiquette.
