State of West Virginia is seeking a Lieutenant Correctional Officer to supervise a shift or unit in a correctional facility, ensuring the safety and security of inmates, staff, and the public.

The role involves planning, directing work, enforcing policies, and coordinating with visitors and staff, with mandatory background checks and trainings; a one-year probationary period is typical and state benefits are provided.

Qualifications

• Training: Graduation from a standard high school or the equivalent.
• Experience: Five (5) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience as a correctional officer, probation/parole officer, any US Military Service (Part-time National Guard service may be included as military service using the Division of Personnel's internal conversion calculation), police officer or in criminal justice or related field.
• Substitution: Coursework from a regionally accredited college/university in corrections/criminal justice may substitute for the required experience at 1 year for every 30 hours of study.
