Job summary

St. Louis County Justice Services is seeking a Corrections Lieutenant to lead a correctional shift, overseeing that staff and inmates are secure and operations run smoothly on site at the Justice Center.

You will direct first-line supervisors, coordinate daily activities, and ensure compliance with policies and standards while promoting safety, accountability, and professional behavior among the team.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to thirty credit hours in the behavioral sciences, criminology or corrections.
• Three years of work experience.
• CPR and First Aid certification from the American Red Cross.
• Some positions require Type III Alco Analyzer and Breathalyzer operator's permit.
• Some positions require REJIS certification.
• Some positions require weapon qualification.

Responsibilities

• Act as first-line response for assigned shift within Correctional facility.
• Monitor shift operations to ensure proper shift coverage to ensure jail security.
• Investigate disturbances, grievances and rule and regulation infractions by inmates and officers.
• Inspect facility and equipment for contraband, cleanliness, and maintenance requirements.
• Enforce rules and regulations to ensure adherence to policy and procedures.
• Assist with employee development, retention evaluation and training of lower workers.
• Maintains attendance records, performances logs and schedules.
• Prepare activity reports.
