Job summary

Lehigh County Department of Corrections is seeking a skilled maintenance technician for the second shift to support daily plant operations across heating, plumbing, and electrical systems. This role involves coordinating with supervisors, handling maintenance requests, and assisting in the upkeep of a large correctional facility.

The position requires a GED or high school diploma, ability to supervise inmates, and maintain safety in a high-security environment.

Qualifications

• Ability to learn and understand the rules and regulations relating to the operation of a correctional facility.
• Ability to quickly learn the methods and techniques used in the control and custody of inmates, including appropriate use of force and defensive tactics.
• Ability to supervise the activities of inmates in custody. Ability to remain alert at all times and react quickly and calmly in emergencies. Ability to follow both verbal and written instructions as well as keep records and write clear and concise reports.

Responsibilities

• Respond to work orders and support daily plant operation.
• Coordinate with outside service personnel and contracts to repair or maintain facility systems.
• Maintain inventory of maintenance tools and supplies and ensure proper storage.
• Assist in emergency responses and implement safety procedures.
• Communicate professionally with inmates, staff, volunteers, and visitors.
