Job summary

The Delaware Department of Correction seeks a skilled trades incumbent to perform advanced maintenance, electrical work, HVAC maintenance and related restoration tasks on facilities and equipment. You will supervise inmate workers, maintain records and ensure safe, efficient operation of the plant.

Starting salary is $55,421.21 with progression to $73,329 after CEIT completion; a 5% shift differential applies for night hours. Conditional offers require background checks and fitness testing.

Qualifications

• Delaware Journeyperson or higher Electrician license (or equivalent from another state)
• Six months experience in trades such as plumbing, carpentry, painting or HVAC
• Six months experience in record keeping
• Knowledge of interpreting blueprints, schematics or technical drawings
• Knowledge of estimating cost, time and materials for projects
• Valid Driver's License

Responsibilities

• Performs preventive maintenance on interior and exterior building structures, fixtures and appurtenances; HVAC and other systems.
• Renovates facilities, builds partitions and layouts to optimize space usage.
• Oversees referral of jobs beyond limits to private contractors.
• Maintains and repairs HVAC, electrical and plumbing projects and related equipment.
• Operates life safety devices such as generators, sprinkler systems and emergency lighting.
• Maintains records of work, materials used and time spent on assignments.
