Job summary

GENERAL SUMMARY

This position provides clerical support within the Kalamazoo County Jail, a 24-hour, physically secure criminal justice facility. Duties include but are not limited to data entry and processing, access to, scheduling, interdepartmental communication, intra-agency communication, communications with the public, phone correspondence, property collection, inventory, camera monitoring, inmate correspondence, building access control, emergency communications, and court document interpretation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Process the intake and release of residents into and out of the Kalamazoo County Jail .
  • Inventory property of residents and accurately document all belongings.
  • Schedule meetings with interdisciplinary partners; law enforcement agencies, courts, parole & probation, and mental health providers.
  • Monitor audio visual systems to ensure security and safety , and effective communication with staff, visitors, and residents.
  • Answer incoming calls, provide information, or direct callers to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain and update various records and information systems.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalency. Two (2) additional years of college coursework is desired.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in criminal justice, law enforcement, or the legal field.
  • Previous experience in customer service and, or data entry is preferred.
  • Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

An individual with any of the following is ineligible for consideration for employment: A felony conviction, pending felony or misdemeanor charge, domestic violence conviction, or any outstanding warrant.
