This position is responsible for maintaining the custody, safety, and security of residents of the Kalamazoo County Jail, a 24-hour, physically secure criminal justice facility. The role requires successful completion of a medical examination, drug screening, psychological evaluation, and a comprehensive background investigation. Candidates must be able to understand, retain, and apply agency rules, regulations, policies, and security procedures. The position requires the ability to maintain composure in stressful or emergency situations; multitask effectively; react quickly and calmly; communicate clearly; prepare accurate written reports; and learn and apply self-defense and control techniques when dealing with potentially hostile or combative people. Work assignments are variable and may include any shift, day of the week, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
