Job summary

WestCare Inc. at Sheridan Correctional Center in Sheridan, IL seeks a full-time Substance Abuse Counselor. You will assess clients, develop individualized service plans, and lead curriculum-based groups to support recovery.

You’ll maintain records, ensure confidentiality, and help clients engage in self-help groups like AA/NA. Qualifications include CADC certification or progress toward CADC, high school diploma (master's/bachelor's preferred), and strong organizational and communication skills.

Qualifications

• CADC certification or CADC within two years of employment.
• High school diploma required; higher degree preferred.
• Knowledge of offender populations and assessment tools.
• Ability to pass background check and obtain OIG LEIE clearance.
• Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening and CPR/First Aid.

Responsibilities

• Complete client assessments using required tools.
• Develop comprehensive service plans with client input.
• Provide daily treatment and curriculum-based groups.
• Maintain client files and confidentiality per policy.
• Submit weekly client data for WestCare database entry.
• Engage clients in motivation for treatment and stages of change.
• Coordinate with and support self-help groups (AA/NA).
• Attend staff training and cross-training sessions.
• Maintain professional appearance and conduct.
