A full-time position at Pasquotank Correctional Institution in Elizabeth City, NC, supervising Correctional Officers and ensuring the security and welfare of inmates. This position is assigned to Pasquotank Correctional Institution located in Elizabeth City, NC. Work in this class involves first-line supervision of Correctional Officer III's in close-custody institutions with restrictive and controlled housing. Positions assign lower-level custody staff to specific areas or posts. Employees oversee officer activities and performance, ensuring the custody, security, and welfare of inmates. Employees arrange work schedules for shift coverage, implement operational procedures, and ensure compliance with rules and regulations. Employees at this level supervise more staff than the lower-level Correctional Sergeant I or II. Positions report directly to a Correctional Lieutenant III and/or the Correctional Housing Unit Manager. They ensure staff is fully trained, and proper conduct, actions, and procedures are followed. Maintenance of facility security through inspections, direction during drills, searches, emergencies, and referrals to restrictive housing are key responsibilities. The role includes leading tactical staff, responding to emergencies, conducting searches, investigating security issues, preparing reports, evaluating staff performance, and conducting briefings. Must be eligible for certification by the N.C. Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

To qualify, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:
Management Preference: Eastern Region prefers candidates with at least 2 years as a Correctional Officer.
Qualification options include a High School diploma or GED plus three years of Correctional Officer experience, or two years as a Correctional Officer III, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be eligible for certification by the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.
