Job description

This position is located at Alexander Correctional Institution in Taylorsville, North Carolina. Work involves first-line supervision to Correctional Officer III’s in close-custody institutions with restrictive and controlled housing. Position assign lower level custody staff to a particular area or post. Employee oversees officer activities and performance and ensure that the custody, security and welfare of inmates is maintained. Employees arranges work schedules to ensure shift coverage, implement operational procedures and ensure rules and regulations are followed according to policy. Employee at this level supervises more staff than recognized in the lower level Correctional Sergeant I or II. Position reports directly to a Correctional Lieutenant III and/or the Correctional Housing Unit Manager.

The salary grade for this position is NC09. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

Salary Grade: NC09 Salary Range: $39,671.00 - $69,426.00
