Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Correction at Roanoke River Correctional Institution seeks a Correctional Sergeant I (S). This role provides frontline supervision of Correctional Officer I staff at a minimum custody facility, ensuring inmate safety, security, and welfare while managing shifts, duties, and post assignments.

You will review time reports, rosters, and evaluations, and ensure procedures and regulations are followed.

Qualifications

• High School or GED diploma and two years of experience as a correctional officer.
• Must be eligible for certification by the NC Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
• Criminal background check and drug screening required.

Responsibilities

• Provide first-line supervision for Correctional Officer I’s in a minimum custody facility.
• Conduct shift line-up, assign duty areas and posts, and inspect personnel for fitness to post.
• Complete, review, and maintain time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, and evaluations.
• Account for personnel and funds and ensure equipment is operational and post rules are followed.
• May supervise inmates in restrictive housing where applicable.
