Job summary

South Carolina Department of Corrections is seeking a Security Supervisor to plan, coordinate, and direct security staff and oversee inmate custody in a minimum-security facility. Under general supervision, you will assume primary responsibility for security of all buildings and public property.

You will conduct routine unit checks, assist with inmate counts, investigate complaints, arbitrate disputes, and serve as Shift Captain in the supervisor's absence.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma and relevant experience; a bachelor's degree may substitute for the required experience.
• Three years of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work, including one year of supervisory experience.
• Certification by the SCDC Training Academy and completion of the basic supervisory course within six months of entry.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, and direct the actions of security staff and oversee security, custody, and control of inmates in assigned unit(s) of a minimum-security facility.
• Assume primary responsibility for security for all buildings and public property.
• Perform routine unit checks to ensure staff duties are performed properly, safely, and OSHA standards are met.
• Assist with all inmate counts for accuracy.
• Investigate complaints and violations; arbitrate disputes among inmate population and correctional staff.
• Act as Shift Captain in the supervisor's absence.
