Job summary

State of South Carolina seeks a security supervisor to assist with managing the Agency Search Team operations within a correctional setting. The role requires adherence to strict logging, chain-of-custody procedures for contraband, and flexible scheduling across shifts.

Applicants must have a high school diploma and relevant security experience; a bachelor’s degree may substitute for part of the experience. SCDC training and a basic supervisory course within six months are mandatory.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and 18 months experience in correctional, security, military, or police work.
• Bachelor's degree may substitute for 1/2 of required experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and complete the basic supervisory course within six months of entry.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Lieutenant and above in administering the operation of the Agency Search Team.
• Conduct routine, unannounced, and/or pre-scheduled searches of inmates, staff, and visitors within living areas or grounds.
• Be knowledgeable of logging and accountability of contraband items (chain of custody and disciplinary procedures).
• Ensure weekly leave and attendance is submitted.
• Be available for recall in emergency and non-emergency situations requiring extra personnel.
• Flex schedule to work various time frames.
• Remain familiar with policies governing contraband control, searches, property, visitation, etc.
