Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Corrections seeks a candidate to lead and coordinate contraband interdiction and intelligence gathering within the facility. You will supervise searches, join K-9 teams on site, and ensure proper logging and custody of confiscated items.

Role requires completion of eight weeks of SCDC Basic Training and a high school diploma with relevant security experience. Supervisory experience and ability to work with staff and inmates are essential.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Three years’ experience in correctional, security, military, or police work.
• Supervisory experience preferred; degree may substitute for supervisor experience.

Responsibilities

• Under general supervision of the Warden will be responsible for all contraband interdiction efforts and the gathering of correctional intelligence.
• Conducts routine, unannounced, and/or pre-scheduled searches and shakedowns of inmates, living areas, grounds, and other areas.
• Assists the agency search team, special operations k-9 unit, and division of police services k-9 teams while they are onsite.
• Be knowledgeable of the logging and accountability process of contraband items.
• Completes necessary training to perform drug testing of all inmates and confiscated drugs.
• Ensures that all policies, rules, and regulations pertaining to the chain of custody are followed and that all evidence/contraband confiscated is logged in on the "unauthorized property log".
• Conducts at least monthly inspections/searches of all roof tops for weapons/contraband.
• Gathers information from institutional staff and inmates concerning possible contraband violations.
• Responsible for any other duties assigned by the Warden(s).
• Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Education

High school diploma

Three years’ experience in correctional, security, military, or police work

One year of supervisory experience
