Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Corrections seeks a Security team professional to assist in administering the Agency Search Team operations. You will conduct routine and unannounced searches of inmates, staff, and visitors, while complying with chain-of-custody procedures and weekly attendance submissions.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree may substitute for experience.
• Experience in correctional, security, military, or police work preferred.
• Must be certified by SCDC Training Academy and complete basic supervisory course within six months.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Lieutenant and above in administering the operation of the Agency Search Team.
• Conduct routine, unannounced, and/or pre-scheduled searches of inmates, staff, and visitors.
• Be knowledgeable of the logging and accountability process of contraband items (chain of custody).
• Submit weekly leave and attendance records.
• Be available for recall in emergencies.
• Remain familiar with policies governing contraband control, searches, property, visitation, etc.
• Perform duties as directed by supervisor and the Division Director of Security.
