Job summary

Advanced Correctional Healthcare in Minnesota is seeking a licensed RN to provide professional nursing care in a correctional facility setting. You will assess patients, administer medications, coordinate with physicians, and ensure safe, compliant care.

This role requires strong documentation skills, BLS, and the ability to work across shifts, including on-site coverage at multiple sites; compliance with HIPAA and infection control standards is essential.

Qualifications

• Active nursing license in the state where services are provided.
• BLS certification; hands-on training.
• Excellent documentation skills.
• Knowledge of the RN scope of practice.

Responsibilities

• Timely and accurately assess, plan, and deliver nursing care to patients.
• Contact practitioner to obtain orders.
• Administer prescribed medication, treatments and other tasks as ordered by the practitioner.
• Provide emergency first aid care, when appropriate.
• Check and record vital signs, peak flows, blood glucose checks, weight, and other diagnostic tests on-site, when appropriate.
• Triage officer intake screenings for necessity and priority at sick call.
• Record information in chronic clinic and outcome study documents as indicated.
• Report reactions to treatments and medications, as well as changes in the patients’ emotional or physical condition.
• Provide patient education on topics such as correctional facility’s policies and discharge planning.
• Record care information concisely, accurately, and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms.
• Collaborate and coordinate multiple medical services for diagnosis and treatment, as directed by the practitioner.
• Maintain aseptic techniques and infection control precautions as required.
• Maintain knowledge of pharmacology, including drug reactions/overdose.
• Maintain knowledge of therapeutic diets and nutrition.
• Maintain knowledge of social and behavioral sciences in the correctional setting.
• Recommend improved procedures, equipment, and supplies to supervisor.
• Notify supervisor of medical or security incidents.
• Present/participate in in-service education sessions.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and HIPAA practices.
• Oversee and delegate duties within RN scope; cover shifts at multiple facilities.
