Job summary

The Barnstable County Sheriff's Office is seeking a Registered Nurse to provide professional nursing care and oversee plans of care for inmates at the Barnstable County Correctional Facility in Bourne, MA. You will conduct health assessments, triage sick calls, and coordinate with medical providers, ensuring confidentiality of inmate records and adherence to nursing protocols.

Requires an Associate’s or Bachelor’s in Nursing, MA nursing license, CPR, and at least two years of nursing experience.

Qualifications

• An Associate’s degree in nursing or a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing Science is required.
• Licensure by the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Nursing is required.
• CPR certification is required.
• A minimum of two (2) years of experience in nursing is required.
• A minimum of one (1) year of experience working in a correctional facility and/or substance abuse or detox nursing is preferred but not required.
• Ability to work a weekend and holiday rotation is required.

Responsibilities

• Care and custody, instruction and health-related teaching of inmates.
• Perform initial and ongoing nursing assessments and provide treatment, teaching, and referrals.
• Document assessments and interventions; maintain medical records.
• Triaging sick calls; provide education on medical conditions and prevention.
• Coordinate care with health providers, security staff and diet services.
• Deliver emergency medical care and triage within nursing scope.
