Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections is seeking a dedicated professional to provide and supervise rehabilitation programs for offenders at Avery Mitchell Correctional Institution in Spruce Pine, NC. The role focuses on offender classification, educational/vocational programs, and counseling while reporting to the Programs Director I.

Qualifications

• Documented knowledge of services available to individuals from the community and other public and private programs.
• Documented knowledge of supportive counseling, interviewing, job placement, and employment possibilities.

Responsibilities

• Communicate effectively with staff, offenders, and the public in writing and verbally.
• Defend against violence and work under stress when interacting with incarcerated individuals.
• Provide continuous surveillance of the work area.
• Instruct offenders in safe use of tools, equipment, and supplies.
• Review and analyze documents and behavioral data from interviews and observations.
• Perform crisis interventions and routine counseling, including suicide prevention.
• Train and supervise subordinate staff in duties and responsibilities.
• Manage supplies and equipment, and oversee correctional programs.
• Monitor off-site programs, potentially operating a vehicle in varied conditions.
