Job summary

The State of Connecticut Department of Correction is actively recruiting three full-time phlebotomists to perform routine specimen collection and basic lab procedures within a correctional health care setting. Openings span York Correctional Institution in East Lyme, CT and Hartford facilities with varied shift schedules.

These roles require venipuncture expertise, patient interaction with inmate populations, and adherence to lab protocols.

Qualifications

• One year of phlebotomy experience in a CLIA-regulated lab within the last five years.
• Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) by ASCP or equivalent may substitute for general experience.
• Preferred: experience with correctional/forensic populations, EMR systems, and hospital/locked institutional settings.
• High school diploma or GED required.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine blood draws including venipuncture, heel sticks and finger sticks.
• Collects non-blood specimens such as urine, sputum, and throat swabs for testing.
• Accessions specimens and records collection data per protocol.
• Maintains quality control to comply with regulations and policies.
• Provide clerical support related to lab operations and test orders.
