Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) is seeking a dedicated Groundskeeper to maintain DJJ properties, focusing on pruning, planting and general grounds care, while ensuring all equipment remains in good working order. You will perform mowing, trimming and plant care in high-traffic areas, coordinate basic repair work, and assist with related duties as required by the Building/Grounds Supervisor.

This role operates in a secure facility environment around youth.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and custodial or groundskeeping experience directly related to the area of employment.
• Valid driver's license and be 21 years of age.
• Knowledge of maintaining grounds; including trimming of shrubs, bushes and trees.
• Grounds maintenance equipment/repair.
• Good oral communication skills a must.
• Extended work hours as workload dictates.
• Bending, stooping, climbing ladders, squatting, and lifting 40 pounds or more unassisted.
• Must maintain a valid SC Driver's license.
• Working in adverse weather conditions and responding to emergencies as needed.
• Must be able to work in a secured facility, around incarcerated youth.
• Training applicable to these duties will be provided.
• Preferred: high school diploma and at least 5 years of related experience.

Responsibilities

• Planting, pruning and caring for ornamental plants on site; focus on high-traffic areas.
