Job summary

Delaware Department of Correction is seeking a Maintenance Trades Mechanic I to perform routine and preventive maintenance on facility systems. The role includes basic plumbing, carpentry, painting tasks and assisting in equipment repair.

The incumbent will supervise an inmate crew, handle security of tools and supplies, and support groundskeeping duties as required. A high school diploma and a valid driver’s license are required to begin. Training through CEIT is provided.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of operating and maintaining equipment and tools used in trades such as plumbing, carpentry, painting or HVAC.
• Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and be at least 19.5 years old.
• Valid Driver’s License is required.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and preventive maintenance on facility equipment and structures.
• Carry out basic repairs in plumbing, carpentry, painting and related trades.
• Assist in machinery repair and in groundkeeping and custodial tasks as needed.
• Supervise an inmate work crew and ensure tool and material security at all times.
