Job summary

State of Delaware seeks a Physical Plant Maintenance/Trades Mechanic III to perform preventive maintenance, repairs, and restorations on building structures and HVAC systems. You will follow plans, inspect life safety devices, and help keep facilities safe and functional.

The role includes maintaining records of work and may involve supervising other maintenance staff, with pre-employment drug testing and background checks as part of the process.

Qualifications

• Six months experience operating and maintaining a variety of equipment in trades such as plumbing, carpentry, painting or HVAC.
• Six months experience performing work in plumbing, carpentry, painting or HVAC.
• Six months experience in record keeping.
• Knowledge of interpreting blueprints, schematics or technical drawings.
• Knowledge of estimating cost, time and materials for projects.
• Possession of a valid Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on interior and exterior building structures, fixtures and equipment including HVAC and related systems.
• Renovate facilities, bridges or historical buildings and design layouts to optimize space.
• Refer jobs beyond capability or budget to private contractors.
• Maintain and repair compressors, pumps, lifts and HVAC plumbing projects.
• Operate and maintain life safety devices such as sprinkler systems.
• May oversee work of maintenance staff and keep records of time and materials.
• May perform highway lighting or drawbridge maintenance.
