Job summary

The State of Delaware Department of Correction seeks a Correctional Officer/Physical Plant Maintenance Trades Mechanic I to perform routine maintenance and basic repairs across plumbing, carpentry, painting and HVAC tasks in facilities. You will support a semi-skilled maintenance team and follow CEIT training paths and security protocols.

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• At least 19 1/2 years of age.
• Knowledge of operating and maintaining a variety of equipment and hand/power tools used in trades such as plumbing, carpentry, painting or HVAC.
• Knowledge of performing work in various trades such as plumbing, carpentry, painting or HVAC.
• Valid Driver’s License is required.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine and preventative maintenance on facility equipment and systems.
• Performs basic repairs in trades like plumbing, carpentry, painting; assists in installations and repairs.
• Assists in machinery, equipment repair, and groundkeeping activities.
• Supervises inmate work crew and ensures security of tools, supplies, and equipment.
• Complies with training, safety, and departmental policies.
