The Butte County Sheriff's Office is seeking qualified applicants for Correctional Deputy I and II (Lateral) to maintain facility security and inmate welfare. The role includes supervising inmates, processing detainees, and coordinating daily activities within the jail.

Under supervision, deputies perform routine duties and advance to more complex tasks with experience; advancement depends on performance, licenses, and management approval.

• Maintains inmate security in accordance with laws, regulations, and institutional philosophy.
• Processes incoming inmates, fingerprints at intake, and releases from custody; maintains files and logs.
• Interviews inmates to classify and assign them to detention areas and activities; screens for programs.
• Supervises inmate work crews; provides training, orientation, and guidance; ensures compliance with rules.
• Supervises inmate recreation, visits, meals; coordinates transportation for appointments and visits.
• Subdues and restrains persons; uses restraining devices as required.
• Assists medical staff in distribution of medications and screens requests for medical attention.
• Responds to emergencies; interrogates and communicates with victims, witnesses, and suspects; collects evidence.
• Documents incidents and compiles accurate reports; inspects facilities and reports maintenance needs.
• Accompanies and transports inmates to court or medical appointments; testifies in court when subpoenaed.
