Job summary

Humboldt County Sheriff's Office in Eureka, CA seeks a fully qualified Correctional Deputy II to maintain facility security and inmate welfare across shifts. You will supervise inmates, document incidents, and ensure safety in all jail operations.

In this role you will handle intake, classification, and program screening, with opportunities for growth, hazard pay, benefits, and a comprehensive retirement plan. Evening or weekend duties may be required.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, ordinances, regulations, and standards affecting jail and inmate detention.
• Knowledge of jail operations, including booking, custody, and release of inmates; inmate rights and discipline; emergency response.
• Basic mathematical principles and recordkeeping.
• Techniques for dealing with individuals from various backgrounds in hostile situations.

Responsibilities

• Maintains inmate security in accordance with laws and regulations.
• Processes incoming inmates, fingerprints at intake, and releases from custody; maintains files and logs.
• Interviews inmates to classify and assign them to detention areas; screens and recommends programs.
• Supervises inmate work crews and provides training and guidance; enforces rules and safety.
• Supervises inmate recreation and visiting; escorts inmates within jail; provides security for medical staff.
• Subdues and restrains persons as needed; assists medical staff in medication distribution.
• Documents incidents and compiles accurate reports; inspects facilities and reports maintenance needs.
• Assists in emergency situations and provides immediate action; accompanies inmates to court.
