Job summary

Responsibilities

• Serves as the department head in the Correctional Services department at a Bureau of Prisons correctional institute.
• Serves as the resident expert on all custodial and security questions arising at the institution and has full and final technical responsibility when problems occur during the course of any given shift.
• Responsible for institutional security, inmate conduct and discipline, inmate work, control of hazardous tools and material, safety, sanitation, control and use of institution vehicles, and key control.
• Inspects facilities, observes personnel and inmates from the standpoint of security, morale and employee–inmate relations, and overall program coordination.
• Advises the Warden and staff in the formulation and implementation of institution policies, procedures and programs, integrating policies into operations and keeping management advised of activities affecting programs.
