Job summary

Palomar Holdings, Inc. seeks a Manager, Corporate Accounting to lead the Corporate Finance team and own the full cycle accounting process.

You will supervise monthly closes, prepare journal entries, and ensure accurate GL reconciliations while coordinating with external partners and auditors. The ideal candidate has 5+ years in private or public accounting at a similar company, strong SOX knowledge, CPA preferred, and proven ability to manage staff in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of private and/or public accounting management experience at a similarly sized company.
• SOX knowledge and internal controls documentation.
• Strong Excel and MS Office skills (Advanced Excel).
• CPA or CPA-eligible preferred.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for assigned aspects of the day-to-day activities of the Corporate Finance Team
• Support Asst. Controller in management of department.
• Full Cycle and Analysis of Accounting process and procedures
• Prepare or approve month-end journal entries
• Monthly division/program income statement trend review, including budget variance analysis
• Monthly preparation of complex premium and/or claim bordereaux analysis
• Management and review of G/L account reconciliations and supporting schedules
• Coordinate with external partners and brokers on monthly bordereaux and settlement statements
• Oversee and manage the general accounting functions, including, but not limited to: accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and taxes
• Maintaining accurate and complete financial records and participating in audits or reconciliations, as needed.
• Assist in efforts to ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (“SOX”) requirements
• Work with internal audit department and external auditors to ensure compliance with SOX and testing for year-end audits
• Help with quarterly and year-end financial audit activities and the annual corporate financial controls audit
• Manage staff and work allocation, provide ongoing training, setting goals, and maintaining strong employee relationships
• Assist in special projects, ad hoc tasks and/or initiatives
