Job summary

Anthropic is seeking an Accountant to join our Corporate Accounting team in San Francisco. You will own a defined set of accounts and entities through close, prepare reconciliations, and ensure the financial statements are accurate and well-supported.

You will collaborate across Finance, Procurement, Payroll, Legal and Tax, help scale the close, and drive process improvements while leveraging AI tools with strong controls and documentation.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of US GAAP applied to monthly close and financial reporting.
• Experience preparing reconciliations and flux analyses in ERP/GL systems.
• Strong spreadsheet skills with large data sets.
• Experience supporting external audits and internal controls
• Clear written and verbal communication with non-accountants
• Attention to detail and ownership with competing deadlines
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience; CPA/CA preferred

Responsibilities

• Own month-end and quarter-end close activities for assigned accounts and entities, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and schedules.
• Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and flux analyses, investigate variances, and write explanations for partners
• Maintain US GAAP documentation for areas of ownership (prepaids, fixed assets, accruals, intercompany balances)
• Draft accounting memos and process documentation; escalate non-routine items with proposed treatments
• Execute internal controls and provide audit support, including schedules and auditor responses
• Partner with business owners to understand new transactions and reduce post-close adjustments
• Review contractor work and provide feedback to maintain quality
• Identify and implement process improvements and automation, including using Claude and AI tools with checks
• Support system/process changes in accounting, including testing and data validation
