Job summary

ServiceNow in Mountain View, CA is seeking an experienced backend engineer to design, build, and scale distributed systems. You will work closely with machine learning, search, product, data, and frontend teams to understand infrastructure needs and influence the roadmap.

You will architect core infrastructure including distributed key-value stores, schema-less data stores, authentication, event streaming, and configuration management, while improving observability and performance.

Qualifications

• Experience designing, building, shipping, and maintaining backend distributed systems.
• Strong knowledge of at least one major programming language (Python/Go/Java/C++).
• Experience with containers and cloud infrastructure (Docker, AWS/GCP/Azure).
• Familiarity with open source tech like Kafka and Elasticsearch/OpenSearch.
• BS+ in computer science or related field; curiosity to learn and own projects.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with ML, search, product, data, and frontend teams to understand infrastructure needs and influence roadmap.
• Architect and build core infrastructure and features such as distributed stores, auth, event streaming, config management, and feature flags.
• Improve observability, reliability, logging, tracing, monitoring, and alerting across Moveworks-style systems.
• Define metrics to measure performance of microservices and fix bottlenecks for scale.
• Deliver deadline-driven work interdependently with other engineering teams.
