Job summary

Arizona State University’s Student Success Center seeks an Administrative Operations Specialist 3 to lead a large team of student peer coaches and supervise Work+ initiatives on the Tempe campus, with occasional cross-campus travel.

You will manage projects, provide career guidance to student employees, and collaborate with campus partners to enhance student retention and success through data-driven coaching and program design.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Student / Working Learners Supervision: Supervises, leads, trains, coaches, and evaluates the performance of ASU's peer coaches and student workforce, developing professional competencies.
  • Plans delivery of the peer coaching program and supports students in goal setting, strategies for success, and financial planning.
  • Conducts monthly 1:1 meetings to provide career guidance and feedback linked to work experiences.
  • Facilitates the work-integrated learning opportunity and translates day-to-day duties into transferable skills for the learners.
  • Monitors progress and prepares reports on peer coach service measures and retention data.
  • Delivers training related to student success and coaching through meetings, workshops, and seminars.
  • Project Planning, Management, and Assistance: Leads with special projects, strategy planning, and data-driven initiatives; supports Work+ program activities and analytics.
  • Supports event orientation/outreach for new students in collaboration with ASU units, within budget and leadership directions.
  • Flexible Projects and Tasks: Works independently in a dynamic environment, using data to propose improvements for student retention and success.

Job Description:

Salary: $45,000 annually

The Student Success Center is seeking an innovative, energetic and self-motivated leader to join an award-winning, high-impact, dynamic, student-centric team. The Student Success Center believes that the right person at the right time can change a life, and we are looking for a leader who can take initiative, aligns with this belief and is passionate about helping students achieve their goals and aspirations, utilizing a holistic coaching approach. Under administrative direction, the Coordinator primarily manages and supervises a large team of working learners (peer coaches), leads the center's projects and activities, serves as liaison between the center and assigned student retention partners, and works on collaborative projects related to student engagement, retention, and success. This position is based on the Tempe campus with occasional travel to pan campuses such as West, Poly or Downtown.

The Coordinator also plays a critical role in the University College Work+ program, which is designed to prepare student-employees for their future professional careers. As a key participant in Work+, the Coordinator will serve as a career guide and mentor to the student peer success coaches they have been assigned to supervise. Additionally, the Coordinator will be involved in providing student peer success coaches opportunities to build valuable work skills as well as facilitating their professional development. Essential Duties:
  • Student / Working Learners Supervision (75%)

    Supervises, leads, trains, coaches, and evaluates the performance of the assigned large student peer coaching workforce, applying work-integrated learning principles to ensure the peer coaching role functions as both a service position and a structured, career-building work experience . All peer coaches, or working learners, are students at ASU themselves, and the position is designed to develop their professional competencies while they support their peers.

    Coordinates delivery of the Student Success Center's peer coaching program, ensuring support for students who may need assistance and guidance with goal setting, strategies for success, financial planning, and engagement within the university to ensure a successful first year at ASU.

    Conducts monthly 1:1 meetings with each of their assigned peer coach that integrate performance review with career coaching, using the peer coach's day-to-day work as a live case study for professional growth - providing career guidance and mentorship, discussing professional development, reviewing performance, and delivering actionable feedback tied to real workplace scenarios.

    Intentionally designs the peer coaching experience as a work-integrated learning opportunity, assisting coaches in translating their day-to-day responsibilities into transferable competencies across workforce readiness, entrepreneurship, soft skills, and technical skills - helping working learners connect what they do on the job to the skills employers seek.

    Monitors work in progress and completion for each student peer coach and serves as a resource for the student coaches to facilitate success.

    Monitors and prepares standardized and ad hoc reports relative to peer coach service measures and retention data.

    Delivers training related to student success and coaching through meetings, workshops, and seminars to student-learners.

  • Project Planning, Management, and Assistance (10%)

    Leads & assists with special projects and strategic planning as needed, which would include a jobs-to-be-done approach for service design and enhancement, along with engaging students in problem-solving as needed.

    Assists, as needed, with the Student Success Center digital coaching community.

    Assists, as needed, with actionable analytics work.

    Assists, as needed, with marketing efforts and information to faculty, staff, and outside organizations regarding Student Success Center initiatives.

    Schedules, facilitates, and/or monitors orientation and outreach events for new first-year students in collaboration with other ASU units and in accordance with specifications, objectives, and funding limitations of the department as determined by university leadership.
