ABOUT OHIO

State Parties are responsible for building infrastructure necessary for successful candidate campaigns up and down the ballot. Over the last few years, Ohio Democrats built a year-round organizing model driven by local community activists and volunteers. Ohio Dems are testing new technology and programs to build a modern, data-driven and nimble force to elect Democrats statewide now and in the future.

In 2026, every statewide office will be on the ballot – including the governor’s race and a special election to elect a U.S. Senator to the seat currently occupied by appointed Senator Jon Husted. With 3 DCCC Frontline Races to protect and 3 additional seats targeted by the DCCC, the path to a Democratic majority in the U.S. House and Senate will once again run through Ohio in 2026.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The Ohio Democratic Party’s Voter Access Department is seeking a Hotline Manager. The Hotline Manager will manage the Voter Assistance Hotline and Textline, by:

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Building and operationalizing innovative Voter Assistance Programs to proactively support voters through the election process, establishing the processes, tools, and resources necessary for effective and scalable program delivery.
  • Utilizing consistent and diverse outreach methods to reach new and existing volunteers, including community networking and engagement, phone calls, textbanking, and social media.
  • Recruiting, training, and managing a robust team of volunteers, ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge and skills to effectively assist Ohio voters who call or text the Hotline.
  • Ensuring volunteers are accurately communicating voting practices, procedures, and requirements to voters in accordance with Ohio election law and directives.
  • Providing ongoing performance feedback and coaching to volunteers, fostering continuous improvement and high-quality voter interactions.
  • Developing and delivering training presentations to volunteers participating in the Voter Assistance Programs.
  • Cultivating a positive, inclusive, and engaging volunteer environment that promotes retention, motivation, and a strong sense of shared mission.
  • Assisting with event hosting and special projects as necessary.
  • Maintaining strong data practices, ensuring that all reports are timely and accurate.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
  • 1+ cycle of campaign experience in voter protection, campaign or community organizing, with experience managing a large number of volunteers.
  • Strong project management skills; ability to build systems that scale to provide a high-quality experience to voters and volunteers alike; experience presenting training sessions, and organizing and managing large volunteer programs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to connect with people over the phone or computer to engage them with the campaign.
  • Demonstrated ability to work toward and achieve ambitious, metric-driven goals.
  • Capacity and willingness to work long and irregular hours (nights/weekends) during peak season.
  • Exceptional organizational and strong time-management skills.
  • Comfortable working with technology including SMS and online platforms.
  • Knowledge of, or ability to learn, Ohio’s election laws, with the ability to interpret, communicate, and provide authoritative guidance to volunteers and voters.
  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing voting rights and electing Democrats at every level of government.
  • Familiarity with Ohio elections is a plus.
  • Familiarity with VAN/Votebuilder and Google suite, and the ability to learn additional technologies used in organizing and voter protection programs, such as those that are used to operate Hotlines and Textlines that receive inbound calls and messages from voters, run phone banks, and send texts to voters.
  • Access to a laptop and cell phone.
  • Fully invested in the success of Ohio Democrats.

Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience. The Voter Access Program/Hotline Manager will be represented by IBEW Local 1466 and paid a salary of $5,774.86 per month and full benefits including PTO as needed, health, dental, and voluntary vision insurance. The hourly expectation will fluctuate depending on the campaign cycle, but will be a minimum of 40 hours per week. Housing will not be provided.
