Job description

State Parties are responsible for building infrastructure necessary for successful candidate campaigns up and down the ballot. Over the last few years, Ohio Democrats built a year-round organizing model driven by local community activists and volunteers. Ohio Dems are testing new technology and programs to build a modern, data-driven and nimble force to elect Democrats statewide now and in the future.

In 2026, every statewide office will be on the ballot – including the governor’s race and a special election to elect a U.S. Senator to the seat currently occupied by appointed Senator Jon Husted. With 3 DCCC Frontline Races to protect and 3 additional seats targeted by the DCCC, the path to a Democratic majority in the U.S. House and Senate will once again run through Ohio in 2026.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The Ohio Democratic Party’s Organizing department is seeking passionate Field Organizers to manage volunteer and direct voter contact efforts across the state. Coordinated Campaign Field Organizers will recruit and train volunteers to conduct extensive voter outreach to support the 2026 Coordinated Campaign in a battleground state. They will work with volunteers, local partners, and Democratic campaigns to support the organizing program for statewide success. Responsibilities will generally include:

  • Hit ambitious voter contact goals primarily through face-to-face conversations on the doors
  • Plan and host events to promote the campaign in the community
  • Manage day-to-day operations of local campaign office
  • Other responsibilities as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Familiarity with customer-service standards and experience in public-facing roles
  • Strong time management skills and experience maintaining a clean, efficient, friendly office environment
  • Able to engage thoughtfully and respectfully with voters and volunteers from diverse backgrounds and a variety of perspectives
  • Nimble and able to adjust to changing priorities and circumstances quickly
  • Clear communicator who enjoys training others on new skills
  • Willingness to work in a fast-paced campaign environment, that may require long, irregular hours, including some nights and weekends
PREFERRED CHARACTERISTICS
  • Highly organized and able to balance multiple competing priorities
  • Caring, empathetic approach to building relationships with others
  • Passionate about engaging meaningfully with community members about Democratic candidates, issues, and values
  • Strong work ethic and motivated to meet high goals while developing new skills
  • Previous paid or volunteer Organizing experience a plus, but not required

The Field Organizer will be represented by IBEW Local 1466 and paid an hourly rate of $16 and full benefits including PTO as needed, health, dental, and voluntary vision insurance. The hourly expectation will fluctuate depending on the campaign cycle, but will be a minimum of 55 hours per week. Housing will not be provided.
