Job description

Coordinated Campaign Organizing Director
ABOUT OHIO

State Parties are responsible for building infrastructure necessary for successful candidate campaigns up and down the ballot. Over the last few years, Ohio Democrats built a year-round organizing model driven by local community activists and volunteers. Ohio Dems are testing new technology and programs to build a modern, data-driven and nimble force to elect Democrats statewide now and in the future.

In 2026, every statewide office will be on the ballot – including the governor’s race and a special election to elect a U.S. Senator to a full six year term in the seat currently occupied by appointed Senator Jon Husted. With 3 DCCC Frontline Races to protect and 3 additional seats targeted by the DCCC, the path to a Democratic majority in the U.S. House and Senate will once again run through Ohio in 2026.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Organizing Directors will be critical to developing and implementing volunteer recruitment and voter contact programs that win close elections. They will hire, develop, and manage Organizing teams on state coordinated campaigns. Organizing Directors should be resilient leaders and creative thinkers who can hold themselves and their teams accountable to ambitious goals. Organizing Directors will serve as senior-level staff on the coordinated campaign and will work closely with other departments to implement programs that elect Democrats up and down the ballot.

ROLE OVERVIEW:
  • Develop and implement the coordinated campaign’s statewide organizing program, including staff development, volunteer recruitment, and voter contact.
  • Hire and oversee all Organizing department staff, including Deputy Organizing Directors, Regional Organizing Directors, and Organizers.
  • Create systems and communication structures that provide clear direction and motivate teams to achieve ambitious volunteer and voter contact goals.
  • Oversee a training program that boosts staff productivity and develops volunteers’ skills.
  • Collaborate with Data, Operations, and Voter Access departments.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • At least 3+ cycles of organizing experience, with a strong preference for at least 2 cycles of experience in either a Deputy or Director role on a statewide electoral organizing program.
  • Experience managing staff through multiple layers, including unionized staff.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, especially as applied to building a strong, inclusive management culture that supports staff development.
  • Proven fluency with VAN and other organizing tools.
  • Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to collaborate with stakeholders across all levels of the organization.
PREFERRED CHARACTERISTICS:
  • Creative and thoughtful about what they’re working on, how they approach their work, and their coworkers.
  • Highly adaptable and resourceful problem-solver, able to navigate priority shifts and change effectively.
  • Possesses a collaborative spirit.
  • Fully invested in the success of Ohio Democrats.
