Responsibilities

  • Review and maintain employee time records in Workforce Software (WFS).
  • Enter, edit, and correct time transactions including regular hours, overtime, vacation, holidays, personal days, jury duty and bereavement leave.
  • Monitor and resolve timekeeping exceptions, missed punches, and scheduling discrepancies.
  • Ensure time entries comply with policies and labor agreements; obtain approvals.
  • Communicate with supervisors regarding missing or inaccurate time records.
  • Generate payroll audits and correct errors or discrepancies.
  • Generate and distribute timekeeping reports for stakeholders.
  • Maintain confidentiality of payroll data and assist employees with timekeeping questions.

The Opportunity

Smurfit Westrock, Mahrt Mill, located in Cottonton, Alabama, is looking for a Payroll Coordinator who will be responsible for accurately reviewing, editing, and maintaining employee time records for approximately 500 hourly employees within Workforce Software (WFS). This position supports payroll accuracy by ensuring employee hours, overtime, schedule changes, and pay-related transactions are properly entered, reviewed, and approved in accordance with company policies, labor agreements, and applicable regulations. The Payroll Coordinator works closely with supervisors, managers, Human Resources, and employees to resolve timekeeping discrepancies and ensure timely payroll processing.

How You Will Impact Smurfit Westrock
  • Review and maintain employee time records in Workforce Software (WFS).
  • Enter, edit, and correct employee time transactions, including:
    • Regular hours worked
    • Overtime hours
    • Vacation time
    • Holidays
    • Personal days
    • Jury duty and bereavement leave
    • Other paid and unpaid absences
  • Monitor and resolve timekeeping exceptions, missed punches, and scheduling discrepancies.
  • Ensure all time entries comply with company policies, attendance guidelines, and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Review timecards for accuracy before payroll deadlines and obtain necessary approvals.
  • Communicate with supervisors regarding missing or inaccurate time records.
  • Generate payroll audits by researching and correcting errors or discrepancies.
  • Generate and distribute timekeeping reports as requested by stakeholders.
  • Maintain confidentiality of employee information and payroll-related data.
  • Support employees and supervisors with questions regarding WFS timekeeping processes.
  • Maintain appropriate records for audit purposes.
  • Participate in periodic system testing, upgrades, and process improvement initiatives related to timekeeping and payroll administration.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Accounting, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 to 3 years of experience in payroll, timekeeping, human resources, administrative support, or a related role.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing, industrial, or unionized environment preferred.
