Job summary

Maine Veterans' Homes in South Paris is seeking a part-time Cook to prepare nutritious, delicious meals for our residents. Work 5:30 AM-2:00 PM on an alternating weekend schedule, helping maintain a warm, inviting dining experience while following safety and sanitation practices.

You will collaborate with the dietary team, supervise Food Service Workers when needed, and contribute to high-quality meals that support comfort and quality of life for Veterans.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in food service, including meal preparation and cooking.
  • Healthcare or institutional cooking experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of safe food handling and sanitation practices.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to communicate in English with residents and in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve high-quality meals for residents according to menus and recipes.
  • Prepare meals that meet nutritional and therapeutic dietary needs.
  • Follow safe food handling, sanitation, and infection prevention practices.
  • Ensure meals are prepared and served on time with high quality and presentation.
  • Help create a positive dining experience for residents.
  • Work with the dietary team to keep kitchen operations running smoothly.
  • Provide direction and supervision to Food Service Workers in the absence of the Dietary Manager.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment.

What You'll Do

As a Cook, you will:

  • Prepare and serve high-quality meals for our residents according to established menus and recipes.
  • Prepare meals that meet a variety of nutritional and therapeutic dietary needs.
  • Follow safe food handling, sanitation, and infection prevention practices.
  • Ensure meals are prepared and served on time while maintaining high standards for quality and presentation.
  • Help create a positive dining experience for our residents.
  • Work collaboratively with the dietary team to keep kitchen operations running smoothly.
  • Provide direction and supervision to Food Service Workers in the absence of the Dietary Manager.

What We're Looking For
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in food service, including meal preparation and cooking.

  • Ability to understand and respond to residents' needs and inquiries in English.
