Job summary

The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) – Vernon State Hospital is hiring a Cook II to prepare, cook, portion, and serve meals for regular and modified diets. Responsibilities include following recipes, operating equipment safely, and ensuring sanitation, while supporting diet textures and accurate meal delivery.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of food preparation methods, storage standards and sanitation regulations.
• Knowledge of specialized diets and textures; ability to follow recipes.
• Ability to lift at least 25 pounds and stand for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Attends work regularly and may work specific or rotating shifts as required.
• Prepares, seasons, cooks, and assembles food for regular and modified diets.
• Operates and maintains food service equipment in a safe manner.
• Calculates food quantities using standardized menus and recipes.
• Maintains sanitation and completes records; supports training of others.
