Job summary

Health & Human Services Commission in Mexia, Texas is seeking a Cook II to prepare, cook, portion, and serve food for regular and modified diets in a state care facility. You will train and supervise kitchen staff and ensure sanitation and safe operation of all equipment in line with guidelines.

This full-time, on-site position requires basic cooking skills, ability to lift 25 pounds, and willingness to work evenings or weekends.

Qualifications

• Six months of food preparation work is required.
• Six months experience cooking in a health care food service operation is preferred.
• Graduation from a standard high school or equivalent is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepares, seasons, cooks and assembles food for regular and modified diets using proper equipment and utensils and in a manner that ensures sanitary conditions.
• Operates and maintains all food service equipment in a safe manner.
• Calculates proper amounts of food to prepare and deliver to the designated food service areas by using a standardized menu and recipe to ensure an adequate supply of food.
• Distributes and serves food, including for special diets, following food service procedures.
• Guides, trains and oversees others in food preparation, meal assembly and service, equipment usage and sanitation.
