Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) seeks a Cook II in Austin to prepare and serve meals for residents and staff, following dietary guidelines and standard recipes. The role involves safe operation of kitchen equipment and maintaining sanitary conditions in a dynamic state-run facility.

The position offers full-time hours, a monthly salary, and comprehensive benefits including health insurance and pension, with telework not available and a required background check.

Qualifications

• 6 months of food preparation work is required.
• 6 months experience cooking in a health care food service operation is preferred.
• Texas requires food handler training; Food Manager certification is required within six months of hire.
• Ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds and to stand/walk on hard floors for extended periods.
• Knowledge of sanitation and food safety practices.

Responsabilités

• Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or rotating shifts, overtime as needed.
• Prepares, seasons, cooks and assembles food for regular and modified diets following doctor's orders and standardized menus.
• Operates and maintains all food service equipment safely and trains others in proper usage.
• Calculates food quantities from recipes to meet dietary needs and portion control.
• Maintains sanitation and storage procedures for dishes and kitchen areas and handles deliveries as needed.
