Job summary

The Texas Health and Human Services Commission seeks a Cook II at the Austin State Supported Living Center to prepare and serve meals for residents with emphasis on safety and quality. You will guide kitchen staff, follow recipes for regular and modified diets, and ensure sanitation across all areas of the kitchen.

Responsibilities include operating equipment, portioning meals accurately, and supporting training efforts while adhering to state policies.

Qualifications

• 6 months of food preparation work required.
• 6 months cooking experience in healthcare food service preferred.
• Texas requires food handler training; Food Manager certification within six months may be required.

Responsibilities

• Prepares, seasons, cooks and assembles food for regular and modified diets following recipes and guidelines.
• Operates and maintains food service equipment in a safe manner.
• Guides, trains and oversees others in food preparation and sanitation.
• Calculates food quantities using standardized menus and recipes.
• Distributes and serves meals, including for special diets, following procedures.
• Maintains sanitation of areas and equipment and documents records as required.
• May drive a State vehicle and work overtime or weekends as needed.
