Job summary

Indiana University Health is seeking a full-time, rotating-shift Cook/Food Service worker for West Hospital. The role supports Nutrition Services by preparing meals, including therapeutic diets, and ensuring a clean, organized kitchen environment.

The position requires operating kitchen equipment, adhering to health and safety rules, and physical stamina to lift up to 80 lbs and stand for long periods. Prior food service experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Wears PPE as required by environment and regulations.
  • Follows local health regulations to ensure safe food production.
  • Ability to climb ladders.
  • Physical ability to reach, stand long, squat, bend and lift up to 80% of time.

Primary Responsibilities:

Performs supervised tasks related to the preparation of food. Meal preparations include regular and therapeutic diets. Utilizes foundational skills of basic cooking techniques, operates kitchen equipment and maintains a clean and organized workspace.

Candidate Qualifications:
  • Requires the ability to operate kitchen equipment.
  • Must be able to wear protective equipment/clothing required by the environment or government regulations such as gowns, gloves, goggles, rubber-soled closed-toe footwear, etc.
  • Requires adherence to local health regulations and safety requirements to produce safe food for consumption.
  • Requires the ability to climb ladders.
  • Physical requirements to include: reaching, standing for long periods of time, squatting, bending, carrying and/or lifting supplies and equipment weighing 35 lbs. or more, up to 80% of the time.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • No experience is required. Prior food service experience is preferred.
