Job Description: Kitchen Staff

To provide nutritious and attractive meals to shelter guests, staff, and volunteers in adequate quantities as directed. To create a friendly, warm atmosphere for shelter guests, staff, and volunteers. To maintain Health Department standards for cleanliness in the kitchen.

Responsibilities:

1. Follow posted weekly kitchen menus as listed. Obtain permission from the Food Service Administrator before making any changes to the menu.
2. Prepare and serve appropriate amounts of nutritious and attractive food for shelter guests, staff, and volunteers.
3. Help prepare sack lunches daily.
4. Maintain cleanliness to meet Health Department standards at all times.
5. Exercise food safety by using food service gloves and discarding suspected contaminated, spoiled, or very old foods.
6. Work cooperatively with other kitchen staff, helpers, warehouse staff, and shelter staff.
7. Supervise cleanup by shelter guests and/or volunteers.
8. Consult with the Food Service Administrator regarding problems from shelter guests, both verbally and in writing.
9. Work on holidays if deemed necessary by the Food Service Administrator.
10. Perform other duties as assigned.
11. Track meal counts and record food donations.
12. Seek to exemplify Jesus Christ daily and be prepared to share the Gospel as opportunities arise.
13. Be a born-again, mature Christian able to clearly communicate the Gospel during work hours.
14. Preferred: One or more years of quantity cooking experience.
15. Must work well with people, clients, staff, and volunteers; have a heart for ministry.
16. Be able to lift up to 40 lbs. and stand for long periods.
17. Hold a high school diploma or GED.
18. Obtain a Managers level Food Safety certification from the Health Department or ServSafe within 90 days of employment as a condition of continued employment.

Salary Range:

Minimum: $30,000
Maximum: $37,000
