Job summary

The Ohio Department of Youth Services seeks a Cook 2 at Circleville Juvenile Correctional Facility to support daily food service operations in a secure setting. You will work under supervision to prepare meals, supervise youth workers, and ensure sanitation and safety in the kitchen.

Responsibilities include setting up food lines, preparing meals per recipes, and assisting with training and meetings. This full-time role offers union participation and a benefits-focused state employment

Qualifications

• Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition, subtraction, multiplication & division; 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. in food preparation, sanitation & storage & use of food service equipment in institutional, school or restaurant setting.
• Or equivalent of the Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.

Responsibilities

• Works under direction & requires thorough knowledge of food preparation, sanitation & storage & operation of food service equipment to provide application of food preparation, sanitation & storage of food for the Ohio Department of Youth Services (DYS) Circleville Juvenile Correctional Facility.
• Sets up food-line & portions of food in compliance with established dietary requirements; sets up food carts according to daily recipes to be followed in food preparation area.
• Performs other cook duties as assigned (e.g., attends meetings, trainings &/or seminars regarding food preparation, participates in all in-service trainings, etc.).

Job Description

What You'll Do:

The Department of Youth Servicesprovides stability, support, safety, andsecurity for all employees of DYS.The Cook 2 will provide valuable services to the Youth we serve.

Specifically, the Cook 2 will:

• Works under direction & requires thorough knowledge of food preparation, sanitation & storage & operation of food service equipment to provide application of food preparation, sanitation & storage of food for the Ohio Department of Youth Services (DYS) Circleville Juvenile Correctional Facility:preparation & cooking of foods & monitors service lines, loading of carts, storage of foods & general cleaning; operates commercial/standard kitchen equipment to cook foods; mixes salad & makes desserts, dressings & breads; prepares hot & cold beverages & special menu foods; slices meat & cheese; makes sandwiches; assembles fruit plates & relish trays; cleans & cuts vegetables & meats before cooking & mixing; cleans work area, equipment & utensils, ensures safety & sanitation of assigned area; supervise youth workers assigned to work area.
• Sets up food-line & portions of food in compliance with established dietary requirements; sets up food carts according to daily recipes to be followed in food preparation area. Maintains safety and sanitary conditions, packs left over food for proper storage. Secures food storage areas and class A/B utensils.
• Performs other cook duties as assigned (e.g., attends meetings, trainings &/or seminars regarding food preparation, participates in all in-service trainings, etc.).

BACKGROUND CHECK NOTICE: The final candidate selected for this position will be required to undergo a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening. PRE-SERVICE TRAINING: All final candidates are required to attend 3 weeks of mandatory, paid training at the Correctional Training Academy in Orient, Ohio. This training is fully paid for and will cover lodging, transportation (if needed) and meals. Training takes place for 3 weeks, Monday through Thursday, 7AM to 5PM with Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays off.
