Job summary

St. Joseph's Living Center in Windham, CT is hiring a Cook for full-time shifts (5:30AM–1:30PM and 11:00AM–7:00PM) with rotating weekends and holidays. The position offers $21.00–$22.00/hour and a $2,000 sign-on bonus based on experience.

You will prepare meals per planned menus, ensure safety and sanitation, collaborate with the dietitian and care team, and maintain a clean kitchen. Qualifications include a High School Diploma and 1+ year cook experience; Serv Safe certification preferred or

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• 1+ year experience as a Cook in a commercial setting.
• Serv Safe Manager certification or ability to obtain shortly after starting.
• Prior experience in a long-term care or hospital setting preferred.
• Ability to work both independently and as a team.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Fluent English communication (verbal and written).

Responsibilities

• Review menus, ensure ingredients and supplies are available, and keep food storage organized.

Delivering Solutions That Matter

• Prepare and cook meals according to planned menus, therapeutic diet requirements, and approved food safety and sanitation standards, including alternative meal selections when needed.
• Review menus before food preparation, ensure ingredients and supplies are available for upcoming meals, and help maintain a clean, organized food storage area.
• Follow all safety regulations, infection control practices, and sanitary procedures throughout food preparation and kitchen operations.
• Collaborate with the dietitian and interdisciplinary team, including CNAs, to implement dietary recommendations and support quality resident care.

Qualifications For Success

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• 1+ year experience as a Cook in a commercial setting
• Serv Safe Managers Certificate or can obtain shortly after starting
• Prior experience in a long-term care or hospital setting preferred
• Ability to function both independently and as a team
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to communicate fluently in English – both verbally and written
